An Open Letter to Elon Musk

Michael Scott

Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Mr. Elon Musk
CEO
Tesla Inc.,
3500 Deer Creek Road
Palo Alto, California 94304

Dear Mr. Musk;

I am aware that you receive literally thousands of ideas daily, from would-be entrepreneurs, scientists, budding investors, soothsayers — whatever.

But here is an important and timely idea — from one Canadian (me) to another (you).

You no doubt have heard that GM announced a few days ago it will be closing its state-of-the-art car manufacturing plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and will cease manufacturing various GM models at this plant by the end of 2019. The loss of GM in Oshawa will impact Canada’s entire economy, and put at least 2500 highly skilled, experienced auto workers out of a job. That’s just a start. There will be many more collateral casualties.

This loss presents an opportunity for Tesla to take a leadership role in Canada in the manufacturing of Teslas. You have led the way in the USA and shown the world the future of car manufacturing.

I am quite sure both would be most eager to hear your ideas and discuss how we could support a Tesla Inc. presence in Oshawa.

You have demonstrated to the world that you are a man of vision and entrepreneurship. You have shown the way of the future in cars. GM is at last recognizing this future. Why not take a look at how you could leap frog GM and your other competitors by hitting the ground running in Oshawa?

I hope this letter and its idea somehow reaches your desk — the space on your desk where you place really smart investment ideas.

Sincerely,
