Amal Problem Solving Challenge for Helping Edhi Foundation

The Edhi Foundation is a non-profit social welfare program in Pakistan, established by Abdul Sattar Edhi in 1951. Edhi until his demise on 8 July 2016 was the leader of the Edhi Foundation and his wife Bilquis, a nurse, manages the maternity and adoption services of the foundation. The headquarter of the Foundation is in Karachi, Pakistan.

The Edhi Foundation gives 24-hour crisis help to all over the Pakistan and abroad as well. The Foundation provides many services like shelter for the homeless people, free hospitals and medical care, drug rehabilitation services, and national and international relief efforts. Its main focuses are emergency services, orphans, handicapped persons, Shelters, education to poor people, healthcare, international community centers, blood & drug bank, air ambulance services, marine and coastal services.

As everybody knows that after the demise of Abdul Sattar Edhi, there is a great loss to the Edhi Foundation in the donations. They requested the people of Pakistan and abroad to raise funds voluntarily and donate to us. So, Amal Academy which is educational management organization that provides various career development skills to university graduates having either post-graduate or post-secondary education looking for an employment took the responsibility of collecting the fund for Edhi Foundation. Fund raising activity is the part of the Amal Academy curriculum to help students to come out of their comfort zone and interact with different people in case of improving their communication skills.

As the part of Amal career preparation fellowship, we were also given that activity in order to improve our communication skills. At the start, we were facing the problems that where to go for that activity but after some discussion with each other, we came up with an idea to go firstly into the Shalamar Garden in Lahore to generate some amount. So, we made a box for collection and also made some charts to display the purpose to other and convinced many people there. We collected around five thousand just in two hours. Then we decided to go to the Lahore Zoo. We went there. We faced a lot of difficulty there because most of people started arguing with us and some people said no to us. But we did not lose hope and continued our activity and also collected a good amount from that place too.

Next day, we planned to collect some money from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. We divided our group into two. Some of us went to the UET hostels and some of us went to the ground and sitting areas. We collected a good amount from the hostels. But the collection from sitting areas was not good because due to hot day, very few people were there.

Next day, we went to target the people in the Minare-e-Pakistan, BadShahi Mosque, and Lahore Fort. The people in these places were very co-operative and they contributed in that activity enthusiastically. We collected the huge amount. Then we went to Race Course Park. Some people were defensive and some cooperative there.

Our overall experience was very good. We enjoyed the company of each other and have fun. We collected the huge amount from all places and handed over to the Edhi Foundation. That was a memorable activity for us. What we gained from this activity is until we face the issue we can not know how to deal with it and what to gain from it. Sometimes the thing which seems very difficult, are not that much in real.

We should give donations to such foundations. Because there are many poor children and patients who don’t have basic facilities in their house like meal, medicine and school fees. So, we should help them in order to grow our country because they are the future of this nation. Nobody knows that in future they will be the Prime Minister or Finance minister of the country as in UK, their Finance Minister, Sajid Javaid is a Pakistani and he is a son of bus driver. So, we should give funds to help humanity.
