How Amber Heard Is Exploiting An Important Movement

And why it is so important to address this

Now that we are all finally getting over the Will Smith and Chris Rock debacle, there is a new celebrity duo that are butting heads, and this time it is Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

As you may or may not know Johnny Depp has taken Amber Heard (his ex-wife) to court over a $50 million lawsuit for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in 2018 for The Washington Post.

She had made claims that Depp physically, sexually, and mentally abused her and Depp is adamant that this is not true.

Due to her claims he has been struggling to get acting gigs and these claims have completely dragged Depp’s name through the mud.

His intention with this trial is that the truth will come out and that her allegations will be proven to be false.

I have had a browse on social media to see what the public’s general consensus is on this topic and where most people are standing. I have yet to see a single comment or post of support for Heard, but it is not surprising considering that the information that has been coming out about her has been damning and rapidly chipping away at her credibility.

Her personal assistant has testified that Heard spat in her face, psychologist Dr. Curry spoke of Heard’s personality disorder, and let’s be honest Heard’s lawyers aren’t doing her any favours either.

As this trial unravels it is clear to see that Heard is not the innocent victim she makes herself out to be and the evidence that is being revealed paints her as the abuser and a liar. Prior to her relationship with Depp, Heard had also been arrested for domestic violence. Whilst Depp’s ex-partner of 14 years Vanessa Paradis has said that Depp was never violent towards her, a stark contrast to Heard's claims.

With the op-ed that Heard wrote and going into this trial, she probably assumed that she was going to have the general support of women. That feminist groups and domestic abuse survivors would strongly back her but this has not been the case.
