Hello World!

I’ve missed you…..

Like a lot of people I love to travel, going to different places, exploring, having adventures, learning new cultures and enjoying the food!

Obviously COVID put a stop to all that! I got used to staying home, it was safe there. During that time my quest for adventure came from a creative writing course that I did online. I spent hours sitting in my summerhouse freewriting, exploring the labyrinth of my mind (there’s some scary stuff in there!) and learning! Not a bad way to spend lockdown, but pretty insular.

Then…. it happened!! We were allowed OUT! The world began to open up, we could socialise, meet friends and, at long last, travel! I had been waiting for this! Yet I wasn’t sure I wanted to go out, to socialise or to travel. Home had become a bit too safe! I mean there were actual PEOPLE, out there, they might approach me, they might even talk to me!! I mean seriously! That would be simply outrageous!

Gradually I did start to go out, very tentatively at first, but eventually it began to feel OK. It actually began to feel OK enough to plan a trip abroad. After numerous discussions, hours of balancing the pros & cons of each place my hubby and I decided to return to Greece. It was decided, the planning began! Now, relationships are all about give and take, balance, mutual respect and good communication don’t you think? A week before we left hubby comes home from work and asks, “where is it we are going?”. I look at him in disbelief….. we had literally spent HOURS discussing this! I was gobsmacked and speechless (always an indicator that something is very wrong) I see him starting to panic a bit, obviously wracking his brain, trying to remember even one conversation. I just stand there, looking at him…… eventually he says, “Errrr, are we going back to Nice?”

Honestly!

We manage to clarify that we are actually returning to a quaint little fishing village in Corfu, steeped in culture and with amazing food, to a hotel we had both admired the last time we had been there by me shouting, “WE ARE GOING BACK TO KASSIOPI YOU D**K!”

He looks relieved, temporarily, then looks hesitant…..meanwhile I’m ranting under my breath at how he never listens and I always have to end up planning everything and how I just can’t believe this and how…
